Rewind: Mom's Birthday 2009

For my Mom's birthday, we planned a homecooked meal for her instead of taking her out to a restaurant and it turned out to be full of a few surprises. I was responsible for making the cake which turned into somewhat of a disaster the night before when the writing started running off the cake. I wasn't sure how I was going to fix it with having to work the next day and then go right over to my parent's house to start cooking. But, I was able to leave work early and repair the cake. Phew. This is where the surprises start. See my dad was out of town for work and was supposed to be flying in late that night, BUT he was able to get an early flight home and my mom had no idea! It just so happened that I was able to get home early, my sister-in-law was off early, Jer was home and my dad was on his way home, all before 3pm that afternoon. Perfect! We had grocery shopping to do and we were all able to go and do it together. Erin picked me up and brought me to their place where we waited for my dad to arrive from the airport. From there, we headed to the grocery store to pick up what we needed for dinner. Then, we all headed over to my parent's house. When we got there, my mom was on the phone, but was standing in the window to witness 1.) My dad drive up way earlier than expected and 2.) Jeremy and me to get out of the car with him! Ok, so she probably thinks that's all but we've got one more little secret for her. Greg and Holly and the boys are coming in tonight too! You see, her birthday was the night before Jer graduated with his MBA. We were all heading out early Saturday morning for the ceremony and my mom had told Greg not to push it to come in as he had to work and she was afraid they would be too tired. They told her they would be coming in on Saturday morning; that they would just get up early enough to make it to Raleigh and then carovan to the ceremony at Campbell. Little did she know, they were already en route to Raleigh while we were cooking dinner and half-way through dinner...surprise! They walked in and it made her day even better. We had a great night together...I don't think it could have worked out any more perfectly than it did.
