It's Working!
Ready for another South Beach update? It's working! To date, I've lost 8-9 pounds (depending on which scale I step on) and I'm finally feeling good about this change in eating habits. Cravings have subsided, hunger pains are few and far between, and the desire for cake, brownies and ice cream is quickly resolved by simply having a taste and nothing more.
We're going on week 3 now, which means we can enter in to Phase 2 of the plan. This is where we can reintroduce things like whole wheat pasta, whole grain breads, brown rice, fruits, oatmeal and cereals (in limited quantities of course). My trip to the grocery store this morning was a little bit better since I was "allowed" to put that bread back in the cart! It'll be a sweet treat to have a slice of bread with some peanut butter on it in the coming days!
We've found several great recipes that I will continue to use from now on from two different south beach books. My friends have also helped through finding some websites that are dedicated to posting all kinds of recipes that are south beach friendly.
You can go here or here to check out the sites and gather your own recipes. Even if you're not following this diet, these recipes are still tasty and very healthy and are good for everyone.
Another plus is that we've received a lot of encouragement and support from family and friends. We've gone out to eat a few times and have been to a couple of parties in the past two weeks which presented challenges we've never thought about before. But we are happy to say that we did pretty well at each outing. The encouragement and support really does make a huge difference to help us to stay on track and to stay motivated to keep going. Now if we could only make time to add in some exercise...
